Hempen Wedding Dress
The Hempen Wedding Dress was made entirely of fiber grown and hand processed in Vermont. The boddice combines felted hemp and wool while the skirt is entirely comprised of hemp in various stages of processing.
Clothing is Agriculture Collection
The Clothing is Agriculture Collection was born while I was extensively researching synthetic and natural fibers. In my research, I learned that synthetic fibers are made of plastic, which is derived from oil, which is extracted from the lithosphere. They cannot be recycled because there is no way to access that carbon sink and return that carbon to it. Natural Fibers (which I began to refer to as ‘authentic fibers’), instead originate at the site of the soil, and to the soil they are designed to return. To showcase their abilities to build soil and sustain life on earth, I created felt garments out of hemp fiber that I had grown, and embedded the textiles with seeds. Over the course of this installation, I sprayed the pieces with water until the seedlings sprouted forth. All pieces were made with hemp, and natural or found materials. The hat was dyed with scabiosa and black hollyhock flowers .
